While at the ferry building recently, I sampled and then ordered a single of pumpkin galette and olive oil cake. There's no limit on samples currently but this location tends to be popular so there's a bit of a wait. The pumpkin galette is a seasonal flavor and is enjoyable if you enjoy pumpkin pie. As for the olive oil cake, I really liked it a lot since the olive oil makes it savory in a way that somehow still works. This flavor also has actual cake chunks in it. Overall, I thought these two flavors were pretty good but the ice cream is expensive.

This is one of my favorite ice cream places because they always have new seasonal flavors and provide samples. There's always a line, but it moves relatively quickly. I tried the Olive Oil Cake and Pumpkin Galette, and decided to order a sugar cone with a single scoop of Pumpkin Galette ice cream ($6.25). +Ice cream was creamy and filled with galette chunks +Good balance between the cream, pumpkin, and spices +Cone was crunchy *Verdict: 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because their scoops seem bigger now. Great spot for ice cream around the Embarcadero & Ferry Building!

Went here with some friends after dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our ice cream. Wish we were there earlier because the menu was limited near closing time. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area.

We were in the mood for ice cream and were hanging out nearby on the Embarcadero, so into the Ferry Building we went. It was PACKED. Then again, you have to recognize that this is San Francisco, and the Ferry Building is a popular place for both tourists and non-tourists alike. The line here at HSIC was long but not super long. By the time we got to the front, I'd estimate that we'd waited approx. 20 minutes. Bearable. I had known about HSIC for quite a long time, but admittedly had never paid a visit to either this location or the other on Harrison. As such, I made it a point to ask the cashier what their signature flavor is. She immediately said it's the "Secret Breakfast". I ordered a scoop of it topped with extra Corn Flakes in a sugar cone. I don't remember the exact price, but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $7-8. Definitely not cheap. The ice cream was absolutely delicious. Had to eat it fast as it was a hot day, and it was dripping all over the place! The one complaint I have is that the cones could be a little bigger. The ones they have, IMO, are a bit small. SUPPORT LOCAL AND/OR SMALL BUSINESSES. 4 stars
